For those of you who have been with us on our journey over the last 30 years, you have seen us evolve from 2 rooms above an estate agent shop in Stopsley to the large patient-friendly premises that we occupy today.

• We were proud to be one of the first Dental Practices in the UK to offer digital x-ray imaging in order to reduce the x-ray dose to both staff and patients
• Prevention of dental disease has always been the main focus of the practice and so we introduced a hygienist in 1996
• Gum disease is probably now the main cause of tooth loss and so we are proud to Have Dr Robert Ward, a periodontal Specialist, in-house
• With the investment in a Dental Microscope, Dr Charles Barnfield, our Endodontic Specialist, is able to carry out highly accurate root canal treatments, which saves teeth which may otherwise be lost
• We have invested in the highly successful Cerec digital ceramic system which allows us to make crowns, bridges and veneers on the same day after taking a digital scan of your teeth
• We are investing in iTero scanning technology which will make us truly digital, conventional impressions will now be a thing of the past. We will be able to provide Invisalign clear aligners to straighten your teeth, also being able to show you what your teeth may look like at the end of treatment. There will be no need for conventional impressions for crowns, bridges, veneers, dentures and gum shields

The practice has held an NHS contract for over 30 years. However, our funding has become less and less every year. It has reached a level that would compromise the level of patient care that we would like to deliver by forcing us to cut appointment times in order to service the number of patients that the NHS requires us to see in order to maintain their funding. This will not cover the ever increasing practice costs in order to carry on delivering the level of care that we aspire to deliver. We have therefore decided to withdraw our NHS commitment from 1 September 2022.

If you have an NHS appointment due before 1 September 2022, this will be carried out under the NHS contract as it has been done in the past. After this date NHS appointments will no longer be available at Hitchin Dental Care
