What are implant-retained dentures?
Implant-retained dentures are dentures that snap or clip onto surgically placed implants in your jawbone. Unlike traditional dentures that rely on adhesives and suction, implant-retained dentures offer increased stability and security. This translates to several benefits, including worry-free eating, speaking, and smiling, improved chewing ability and a more natural-looking smile.

What does getting implant-retained dentures involve?
Step 1: Consultation & planning: During your initial consultation, we will assess your jawbone health and discuss your goals. X-rays and scans will determine the best placement for the implants.
Step 2: Implant placement: Tiny titanium implants are surgically placed into your jawbone. This outpatient procedure is typically performed with local anaesthesia.
Step 3: Healing & bone fusion: Over the next few months, your jawbone will heal and fuse with the implants, creating a strong foundation for your dentures.
Step 4: Denture creation: While your implants heal, a customised denture will be created to fit your mouth and smile perfectly.
Step 5: Attachment & adjustments: Once healed, the denture will be attached to the implants using special connectors, ensuring a secure and comfortable fit.

Frequently Asked Questions
The entire process can vary depending on your individual needs and healing time. Implant placement typically takes 1-2 visits, followed by a healing period of several months. Once healed, denture creation and fitting can be completed in a few appointments.
Yes! Implant-retained dentures are designed to mimic natural teeth as closely as possible. The secure fit prevents slipping and irritation, allowing you to speak, chew, and smile with confidence. It may take some time to adjust to the new sensation, but most patients find them very comfortable and say they feel natural.
With proper care, implant-retained dentures can last for many years, even a lifetime for some patients. The titanium implants themselves are very durable, and the dentures themselves can be relined or replaced as needed.
The upfront cost of implant-retained dentures is typically higher than traditional dentures. However, they offer significant long-term benefits in terms of stability, comfort, and improved oral health. Additionally, traditional dentures may need to be replaced more frequently, adding to the overall cost over time.
Generally, patients with good overall health and sufficient jawbone density are good candidates for implant-retained dentures. During a consultation, we can assess your individual situation and determine if this is the right option for you.
