Why choose Invisalign aligners?

Many people are put off having braces because of how noticeable they are. The Invisalign system straightens teeth while looking nearly invisible. Using a series of clear aligners, the orthodontic treatment gradually moves your teeth towards your desired smile.

  • Virtually invisible: Made from clear SmartTrack material, the aligners are nearly impossible to spot, meaning you can smile with confidence throughout your treatment.
  • Custom-made: We create a personalised treatment plan to move your teeth into the correct position.
  • Predictable results: Using advanced 3D scanning, you can actually see a digital simulation of your future smile before the treatment even begins.
  • Completely removable: You can take your aligners out to eat, drink, and brush your teeth. This means no dietary restrictions and much easier oral hygiene compared to fixed braces.
  • Enhanced comfort: There are no metal brackets or wires to irritate your gums or the inside of your mouth.
  • Effective: You will begin to see the benefits of a better smile right from the start of treatment.

How does Invisalign treatment work?

Step 1 Consultation – We initially talk to you about what you are hoping to achieve with your smile. We use the clever, innovative technological advancement known as the iTero scanner. This intelligent machine lets you, the patient, and our orthodontist see how your teeth could look following your Invisalign treatment.

Step 2 Planning – The iTero digital scanner permits us to produce fast, accurate, colour 3D images within minutes. Our dentists will take impressions of your teeth using advanced 3D computer imaging technology. Your entire treatment and individual tooth movements will be planned, and you will be able to visualise your treatment from start to finish through animated visuals.

Step 3 Treatment – A series of clear aligners is then custom-made for you that will gradually move your teeth into the desired position. Each set of clear aligners is worn day and night for up to 2 weeks, removing them only to eat, drink, brush, and floss. The aligners should be worn for at least 22 hours per day for the best results, and the dentist will advise you how often to change the aligners. You will visit your dentist once every eight weeks to ensure that your treatment is progressing as planned and to collect the next set of aligners.

Step 4 Results – As treatment progresses, you will notice the teeth gradually move to their final straightened position as you replace the aligners. The number of aligners and total treatment time will vary between individual patients. Following treatment, you will have a beautiful smile you can feel proud to show off. You will be fitted with retainers after the treatment is completed to prevent the teeth from slipping back to the start position.

Retainers and aftercare

Once your teeth have been moved into their perfect position, the aftercare stage is essential to protect your investment. To prevent your teeth from naturally drifting back toward their original positions (known as relapse), you will be fitted with custom-made retainers. These are typically worn at night and act as a lifelong insurance policy for your smile. By following a consistent retainer routine and attending regular check-ups at Hitchin Dental Care, you can ensure your teeth stay beautifully straight and healthy for years to come.
