Quick answer

A single dental implant at Hitchin Dental Care starts from £2,750, which covers placing the implant, the exposure appointment, the final crown and a three-month review. Your initial consultation is £95, redeemable against treatment and refunded if implants turn out not to suit you.

Key takeaways

  • A single dental implant starts from £2,750, covering placement, exposure, the crown and a three-month review
  • The initial consultation is £95, and this is refundable if implants aren't suitable for you
  • If an implant fails within the first year, we replace it free of charge
  • Bone grafting, the number of teeth needed and the approach used are what change the treatment cost
  • All-on-4 starts from £9,995, while implant bridges and implant-retained dentures are priced individually at your consultation, because this depends on each individual treatment plan
  • 0% interest finance over 12 months is available, subject to status

What the £2,750 covers

The figure is a complete single-tooth price, and it includes four stages:

  • Placing the dental implant itself, the titanium post that takes the place of the tooth root
  • The exposure appointment, once the bone has healed around that post
  • The final restoration, meaning the custom crown that is made and fitted on top
  • A review appointment three months later, to check the implant and your bite

So it's one price from placement to finished tooth. These are our 2026 prices, published in full in our dental implant fee guide.

It also comes with a one-year guarantee: if the implant fails within the first year, we replace it free of charge.

What sits outside that figure

The £95 initial consultation is separate. This appointment looks at whether implants would be suitable for you, including the condition of your jawbone and gums, and it's redeemable against treatment or refunded if implants turn out not to be the right route.

The most common addition is bone grafting, which some people need before an implant can be placed. Grafting starts from £525, and we'd rather give you the exact number once we've seen your scan and individual case.

How the treatment works, step by step

Knowing the stages makes the price easier to read, because each one is a separate appointment with its own clinical work:

  • Initial consultation: an examination, a look at your gums and bone, and scans to check there's enough bone for an implant
  • Placement: the implant surgery itself, where the titanium post is placed in the jawbone, usually under local anaesthetic
  • Healing: the implant fuses with the bone, usually over 3 to 6 months, giving the crown a firm foundation. A temporary tooth protects your gum in the meantime, and we'll talk through what you can eat and how to look after the area while it settles
  • Exposure: a short appointment to uncover the healed implant and prepare it for the crown
  • Restoration: the custom crown is made to match your other teeth and fitted onto the implant
  • Review: a check three months later to make sure the implant, the crown and your bite are all settling well

How long the whole procedure takes varies from person to person, mostly depending on how quickly the bone heals and whether grafting is needed first, and we'll give you a realistic timeline at your consultation.

What affects the price

Bone

A tooth lost years ago usually means the bone underneath has receded, because the jaw starts to shrink once there's no root to support. An implant needs something solid to anchor into, so if a scan shows there isn't enough bone, grafting adds a stage and a cost.

There are two main ways to restore it. We can use your own bone tissue, which the body accepts most readily, or a guided regeneration treatment that encourages your bone to grow back, although that takes longer.

The number of teeth

Replacing four teeth doesn't mean four implants at £2,750 each. Two implants can often carry a bridge of three or four teeth, so the cost typically rises far more slowly than the number of teeth being replaced.

Complexity and the approach

The third factor is which approach suits your mouth, and it can shift the pricing more than either of the others. The complexity of the case, from the position of the gap to the health of the surrounding gums, is what decides it, depending on what the examination and scan show.

Single implant, implant bridge, All-on-4 or implant-retained dentures

These options solve genuinely different problems, and the right one is a clinical judgement rather than a shopping choice.

Which one suits a patient depends on how many teeth are missing and where. Single implants, implant bridges and All-on-4 give you fixed teeth, while implant-retained dentures are a removable option held securely on implants.

Single dental implant

A single implant replaces one tooth without touching the healthy teeth on either side. A conventional bridge needs the neighbouring teeth filed down to hold it, while an implant stands on its own, which protects those teeth in the long term.

Implant bridge

An implant bridge uses two or more implants to carry several teeth across a gap. There are fewer posts than teeth, so the cost doesn't rise tooth by tooth.

All-on-4 dental implants

All-on-4 is for a whole arch: four implants, angled to make the most of the bone that's there, carrying a full set of fixed teeth. It's often the solution for people tired of loose dentures or facing several failing teeth, and provisional teeth can usually be fitted on the same day.

Implant-retained dentures

Implant-retained dentures clip onto a small number of implants. They're removable for cleaning but far more secure than a conventional denture, and for a full arch they're usually a lower-cost route than fixed teeth.

Illustration of a full arch of fixed teeth held on four angled dental implants

All-on-4 starts from £9,995 for a full arch. We don't publish a single figure for implant bridges or implant-retained dentures, and that's deliberate rather than evasive. The number of implants, their position and whether grafting is needed all vary, so the honest figure comes from your consultation and scan.

The technology and team behind the price

Part of what you're paying for is the planning. We have an in-house CBCT scanner, which takes a 3D scan of your jaw so the implant position can be planned precisely before any surgery, and an iTero digital scanner for accurate impressions without the putty.

We use implants from Sweden & Martina, an established international implant system. The implant itself is titanium, a material the body tolerates very well, which fuses with the jawbone over time to give the crown a firm foundation. Implant surgery is carried out by our implant surgery team led by, Dr Jayesh Patel, who holds a master's degree in implantology, and Dr Kuldip Chawla who holds a MSc with distinction in Clinical Implantology. We also offer PRF therapy, which uses a concentrate taken from your own blood to support healing after the procedure.

Can you get dental implants on the NHS?

Dental implants aren't among the treatments listed in the NHS dental charge bands, so for most people they're a private treatment. The NHS bands do cover bridges and dentures made from plastic or metal, which are the lower-cost alternatives if an implant isn't affordable.

Paying for it

Implant treatment isn't covered by our membership plans, which are built around routine examinations and hygiene rather than major treatment.

We offer 0% interest finance over 12 months, subject to status, so you can spread the cost across monthly payments by Direct Debit rather than paying in one go. Our treatment co-ordinators can help with the application, and the options are set out on our payment options page.

How dental implants compare on cost over time

A single implant costs more up front than a bridge or a denture. Over a longer horizon the comparison shifts, because a well-maintained implant doesn't lean on the neighbouring teeth and doesn't slip or need relining the way a denture can.

We won't put a lifespan number on it, because nobody honestly can. What we can say is that implants respond to maintenance in the same way natural teeth do, so regular check-ups and hygiene appointments are what protect the long-term result.

What happens at your initial consultation

You get a proper examination, a look at the bone, and a conversation about whether implants are the right route for you rather than a sales pitch. If implants are suitable, you leave with a personalised treatment plan that sets out the costs upfront, and if they're not, the £95 is refunded.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a single dental implant cost in Hertfordshire?

At Hitchin Dental Care a single dental implant starts from £2,750, covering placement, the exposure appointment, the final crown and a three-month review.

Is there a fee for the implant consultation?

Yes, the initial consultation is £95, which is redeemable against treatment and refunded if implants turn out not to be suitable for you.

Is there a guarantee on dental implants?

Yes. If an implant fails within the first year, we replace it free of charge.

How much is a tooth implant on the NHS?

Dental implants aren't among the treatments in the NHS dental charge bands, so for most people they're only available privately, while NHS bridges and dentures are the lower-cost alternatives.

How long does dental implant treatment take?

The implant usually needs 3 to 6 months to fuse with the bone before the final crown is fitted. A temporary tooth covers the gap in the meantime, and treatment takes longer if grafting is needed first.

Are dental implants worth the money?

For many people they are, because an implant replaces a tooth without relying on the neighbouring teeth and responds to care like a natural tooth, although whether it's right for you depends on your bone, gums and budget.

How long do dental implants last?

There's no fixed lifespan, since it depends on your bone, gum health and how well the implant is looked after, but a well-maintained implant is designed as a long-term solution rather than a temporary fix.

Why are dental implants cheaper abroad, such as in Turkey?

Clinic costs and prices vary between countries, so treatment abroad can cost less up front, and the things to weigh are how aftercare, follow-up appointments and any problems would be handled once you're home.

Do I need bone grafting before an implant?

Only if a scan shows there isn't enough bone to support the implant, which is more likely if the tooth was lost some years ago, and grafting starts from £525, with the exact figure quoted at your consultation.

Can I spread the cost of dental implants?

Yes, 0% interest finance over 12 months is available, subject to status, so you can pay in monthly instalments by Direct Debit, and our treatment co-ordinators can help you apply.

Do you accept referrals for dental implants?

Yes, we accept self-referrals as well as referrals from other dentists, and you can book an implant consultation online or by calling 01462 451 300.
